For 30 years, Barry Shapiro has been providing financial guidance to help clients reach their goals through the good times and bad times in their lives. His mission in forming Bshapiro Financial was heavily influenced by his personal experiences and those of friends who did not plan properly and left their families struggling. As a result, he believes in a comprehensive, concierge-level problem-solving approach, providing customized advice to meet client needs. Barry is proud of his long-term relationships with clients, many of whom have referred their own families for help.
His extensive financial background includes working with Northwestern Mutual Life and Robert W. Baird & Co., Inc. as well as Coordinated Planning Group, an office of MetLife. In 2007, he formed Bshapiro Financial while affiliated as a Registered Representative and Investment Adviser Representative with Lincoln Financial Advisors and Sagemark Consulting. Since January 2011, Barry has offered securities and advisory services as an Investment Adviser Representative with Commonwealth Financial Network ®, Member FINRA/SIPC, a Registered Investment Adviser.
Barry earned designations as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Registered Health Underwriter (RHU®), and Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC®) from The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He also attained the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies™. He possesses the Series 6, 63, 65 and 7 securities registrations, and is a licensed insurance professional.
Active in his industry and community, Barry has twice served as president of the Nassau County chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, an elite industry group that promotes ethics and education among financial advisors, accountants and attorneys. In honor of his outstanding contributions to the business, civic and cultural enrichment of Long Island, he was selected by the Long Island Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as a recipient of its prestigious “Class of 2005 Leadership Recognition” award. He is also an active member of the Long Island Food Council. Committed to helping other business owners, Barry has lectured on networking, sales, and business development to business groups.
Prior to his career in financial services, Barry was a journalist. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the City College of New York, and spent more than a decade as a writer and editor. He wrote and served as an editor for such major consumer publications as Us magazine and Sport magazine. With legendary baseball executive Syd Thrift, he co-authored The Game According to Syd: The Theories and Teaching of Baseball’s Leading Innovator (Simon & Schuster, 1998). Today, he stays interested in sports as an avid fan of the New York Mets, New York Giants and New York Rangers.
